All might not be well with the immediate past governor of
Kogi state Capt. Idris Wada.
Having lost the bid to return to the Lugard House in
Lokoja, at the Election Petition Tribunal, Wada seemed embattled by a current
entanglement with Tampetro Nigeria Limited, allegedly weighed down by unpaid
debts.
However, he alleged that the development was part of
larger plans by some persons to criminalize him using the Assets Management
Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
In particular, he claimed that there was a plot to link
him to the ownership of some debtor companies so as to facilitate the freezing
of his personal accounts.
Wada, who spoke through his Chief Communications Manager, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, at the weekend, asserted that there were efforts by some forces at perverting him using the AMCON to rein him in.
AMCON had last week said it secured an interim order from
a Federal High Court in Lagos empowering the corporation through its appointed
receiver/ manager, Chief Robert Ohuoba to take over the business, trading
activities and all fixed and floating assets of Tampetro, a company believed to
be owned by the former Governor.
The move is sequel to the alleged inability of Tampetro
Nigeria Limited to defray its debts.
But Wada who is listed as the 4th defendant in a suit
filed by AMCON against Tampetro Nigeria Limited denied any link with the
company in an affidavit he swore to in the Lagos Judicial Division of the
Federal High Court.
In the affidavit, he claimed that he knew nothing about
the incorporation of Tampetro and that he never gave his consent to or signed
any document relating to the company with AMCON or any other person.
According to him, the signature purportedly signed on
form CAC2.3 (particulars of directors) does not represent his signature and
said he was ready to rely on his specimen signature to prove his innocence
during the trial.
Besides, he insisted he never had any dealing with
Tampetro Nigeria Limited and International Logistics & Fulfillment Services
Limited who were listed as 1st and 2nd respondents in the suit filed against
them by AMCON.
He said the claim by AMCON that he was a part owner of
the debtor companies was false and contended that he (Wada) belonged to the
class of persons to be protected by the laws of the land.
The former governor argued that listing him, as a
Director of the two companies was the height of mischief and a deliberate
attempt to assassinate his character.
He expressed fear that AMCON might be playing out the
script of persecuting and harassing perceived opposition elements in the
country.
He said that by the rules of Court and by the Act that
established AMCON Part 5 Section 49 and 50 “if an order is sought and granted,
the order ought to have been served within 14 days on the ‘debtor’ and if not
served, it becomes void. So, assuming but not conceding that Wada is a Director
on that company, how do you explain the fact that, the purported order which
AMCON is said to be enforcing in June 2016, was granted since 16th April 2015?”
he queried.
He said he was itching to have his day in Court so he can
have the opportunity to deconstruct all the conspiracy theories linking him to
the ownership of the two companies.
