Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo put preparations for his side's match against Valencia to one side by watching Rafael Nadal take on Joao Sousa.

The 31-year-old, fresh from helping Real beat Manchester City to secure a place in the Champions League final, would have had split allegiances during the Madrid Open quarter-final match.

Ronaldo is friends with Real Madrid supporter Nadal, while he also has close ties to his fellow countryman Sousa.

The former Manchester United man was in buoyant mood during the Madrid Open clash and even took time out to pose for photos with his fellow spectators. 

Nadal beat his fellow Iberian 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 to set up a semi-final date with Andy Murray.

Zinedine Zidane's side are in desperate need of a win as they hope to pile the pressure on La Liga rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
