34 year old Former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith was reportedly killed Saturday night, according to a team spokesman.
Hours before the shooting, Smith tweeted that he was "having a blast" Saturday night at the French Quarter Fest, an annual event in the famed New Orleans district.
"A senseless and tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Will Smith -- his wife Racquel -- his children William, Wynter and Lisa," Saints spokesman Doug Miller said.
New Orleans police said earlier that a 34-year-old male and his wife, also 34, were both shot in an apparent road rage incident late Saturday night.
The pair were in their car when a Hummer hit them from behind, causing their car to rear-end another vehicle in front of them.
The male victim and the Hummer driver got into a confrontation, after which the Hummer driver shot the victim multiple times and his wife twice in the leg. She was transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Hummer is in custody and being interviewed, police said in a statement.
