Bobby Shmurda's $2 Million Offer Bail Application Denied for Sixth Time

It's been almost a year now since Bobby Shmurda and 14 others were arrested Dec. 17, 2014 and indicted on a slew of drug, weapons and conspiracy charges, and now it looks like the 21-year-old rapper won't be released before the end of 2015. In a hearing today (Dec. 3) in Manhattan Supreme Court, Shmurda, aka Ackquille Pollard, was denied bond for the sixth time, keeping him in jail on a $2 million bail.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the Brooklyn rapper had put together a new bail package, with his aunt Janelle DeFreitas offering four real estate properties in the New York area as collateral while family members worked closely with bondsman Ira Judelson. At today's surety hearing, however, Judge James Burke rejected the bail package in a sealed proceeding, putting the case back on its previous schedule with Shmurda's next court date set for Jan. 11.

With family members present in the courtroom, Shmurda -- whose 2014 hit "Hot Boy" peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 and landed him a record deal with Epic Records -- entered wearing a black sweatsuit for his first public appearance since Oct. 5. Shmurda's lawyer Alex Spiro, his third different attorney on this case, declined to comment on the decision, except to say that the trial will begin in January.

Having now spent 351 days in jail since his initial arrest, it's been a long road for the young MC, who rejected a recommended sentence of eight years put forth by the prosecution in June. "When I see the judge and the DA, I just see a bunch of people [who are] trying to take my life away for being blessed," he told Billboard back in February. "That's what I look at when I look at them. It looks like a bunch of haters."
