Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant,
Solomon Edebiri, has faulted Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s economic policy, which
he claimed has “castrated most of the state government-owned industries in the
state”.
Edebiri argued that a larger number of the
“state government-owned industries, including Edo Line Transport Company and
Bendel Breweries, inherited from the previous government in the state are not
working, with most of its workforce thrown into the labour market to fend for
themselves”.
The PDP guber hopeful dropped the hint at
an interactive session with journalists in Benin City, the state capital after
he paid N16 million to secure the party nomination and expression of interest
forms.
He said the feat marks the liberation of
“economic bondage and human capacity degradation”, which he alleged that the
All Progressive Congress (APC) government has failed to put in place to boost
the entrepreneurial skills of the people and build capacity for a viable
economy if he realises his ambition to lead the state.
“Instead of using the tax-payers money in
procuring arms, we have a government that is not responding to the desires of
the people. Our weakness lies in the disunity and greed among our members”, he
said.
The aspirant also proposed the construction
of a modular refinery in the state to complement existing ones in the country
to mitigate the impact of avoidable scarcity of petrol.
He tasked journalists as the watch dog of
society to painstakingly stimulate public discuss that would enable the
electorates make the right choice of worthy representatives ahead of the Edo
state 2016 Governorship election.
