The newly inaugurated management team of the Abuja Environmental
Protection Board (AEPB), has reiterated unrelenting resolve to flush out street
hawkers, beggars and any other group of people bent on perpetrating
environmental nuisances in the Federal Capital City.
In a press statement signed by the Board’s
Acting Head of Information, Mr. Samuel Musa, and made available to newsmen, the
new AEPB team, led by the new Acting Director, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olanipekun,
warned defaulters to look elsewhere to carry out their nefarious activities.
According to the statement the new team
last week registered its presence at various flashpoints within the city, where
it admonished hawkers, beggars and destitute to desist from all illegal
activities immediately, as the board is poised to flush them out.
It was gathered that among the areas
visited are Banex Junction, Ahmadu Bello way, Aminu Kano by Amingo, Area 1 roundabout,
Area 3 Junction, Area 8 junction, Force headquarter, and Karma Jiji village,
were the team met with leader of the street beggars, Alh. Suleman Katsina.
The statement also revealed that the team
used the occasion to enlighten the leader of the beggars and his followers on
the decision of FCT Administration, to stop hawking and begging within the city
center.
“AEPB will not relent on it efforts until
the city is completely rid of these environmental nuisances,” the statement
added.
Meanwhile, calling on residents to
co-operate with the task team in other to have a clean and healthy environment,
the board also warned that the present FCT Administration will not tolerates
any illegal activities in line with Section 35, of the AEPB Act of 1997.
Recall that the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa
Bello, had on May 25, 2016 inaugurated the new management team of AEPB, after
sacking the Baba Shehu Lawan’s management team over N9.8 billion debt owed to
the board as well as non-performance.
